PVC variants can be stiffer and may off-gas, making them less ideal indoors. Thicker film resists punctures but can be harder to lay flat, while thinner film handles easily but offers less protection; choose a balance based on expected traffic and duration. If electronics are nearby, consider anti-static formulations to prevent static discharge.

For DIY home use, opt for lightweight, clear sheets that are easy to handle and secure with painter’s tape. For professional installation or moving, select heavier-gauge, reinforced sheets with wide coverage and robust edge seals to withstand heavier foot traffic. Always ensure the sheet is large enough to cover the area with extra margin and that edges are securely fastened to prevent shifting during activity. Your choice should match the intensity of use and the environment where the carpet is laid.

Cut a sheet that clearly exceeds the carpet dimensions, lay it flat, and seal edges with painter’s tape to prevent movement. Keep the plastic clean between uses by wiping with mild soap and water and allow it to dry fully before storing. Store in a dry, cool place away from direct heat sources to prevent degradation.
