Color temperature and diffusion control how true jewelry colors and reflections appear. Set a daylight-balanced color temperature (roughly 5000–5500K) for natural metal tones and gemstones, and use diffusion panels to soften highlights and reduce hotspots. If you also use an RGB LED ring light, you can adjust its color, but aim to keep the softbox light at a consistent temperature for uniform results.

Beginners should start with a versatile kit, such as a mid-size softbox as the main light plus a ring light for sparkle. Professionals typically deploy multiple light sources, a larger deep parabolic softbox for soft, flattering light, and grids or flags to control spill and shadow shapes. This combination helps you dial in reflections, color accuracy, and sparkle without overwhelming a new setup.

Keep diffusion panels clean and inspect seams; avoid moisture and harsh handling to preserve fabric and diffusion materials. Ensure mounts fit standard stands and tripods, and maintain secure connections to prevent drift during shoots. If you rely on remote controls for any light, test them before a shoot to keep work smooth.

For a balanced result, use a large main softbox for broad, soft illumination and a ring light to deliver crisp catchlights, then add a second, deeper softbox on a separate stand for subtle modelling. Position lights at 45 degrees to the piece, and adjust distance to tame reflections while keeping highlight detail visible.

Avoid hard reflections by angling lights away from the piece and using diffusion; use a white reflector or foam board to fill shadows without overgloss. Check white balance carefully and keep the background neutral to prevent color casts behind the jewelry.
