Puritan's
Pride Selenium is an essential trace mineral that functions as part of
the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase. It is bonded to the
essential sulfur amino acid, methionine, in a naturally occurring form
as found in the diet. Selenium is found most abundantly in Brazil Nuts,
organ meats, seafood, and wheat germ. Not manufactured with yeast,
wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients.
Selenium is
a potent antioxidant and a friend of Vitamin E. As an antioxidant, it
helps fight cell-damaging free radicals in your body. Free radicals are
unstable and reactive compounds that can be produced naturally, or as a
result of external factors like air pollutants and smoking. Free
radicals cause a disruptive chain reaction that ultimately disturbs the
normal operations of a cell. As a cofactor for certain antioxidant
enzymes, Selenium helps neutralize free radicals. It also helps recycle
Vitamin E for additional antioxidant support.
Selenium
has other benefits too: As an integral part of hormone metabolism, it
assists functionality. Selenium also supports immune health and prostate
health. Some scientific evidence suggests that consumption of Selenium
may reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer.
