The Earth and Its Peoples: A Global History, Since 1500 Vol 1&2

Students today are busier than ever. They want textbooks and technology products that provide a thorough introduction to history in a clear and easily digestible format. Instructors want textbook programs that engage their students and help them to master the material and practice their historical skills. The Earth and Its Peoples: Student Achievement Series incorporates these various perspectives by including students, as well as instructors, in the development process. In particular, we used a variety of data collection methods to compile information from a diverse national sample of instructors and students so that this text could be developed to reflect the interests of both groups. Students and instructors have been included in every basic component of this textbook development process, including the structure of the text, the evaluation of key material, the development of concepts, and the creation of the title and cover design.
Student involvement in the project has been one of the most important elements of the textbook's development process. The feedback provided by these student participants has facilitated the development of a world history text that is quite different from other books on the market. In particular, students suggested that, in addition to a reasonable price, a textbook should present the material in a manner that facilitates learning both inside and outside the classroom. Students prefer texts that provide a useful overview of the material so that they can learn the information efficiently and perform well on examinations. In the end, this textbook should represent a good value from an educational standpoint-it should satisfy price-sensitive buyers, as well as enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of student learning.
