Overly fawning treatment of a great hero. Best sections deal with his initial assignments post West Point to the US Northwest, and of course, the Civil W@r period. Gives credit for his innovations vis. offensive use of cavalry and its impact on the war. By contrast, shows how more Democratic leaning Union generals were either inept or unwilling to achieve a decisive victory over the South. Short shrift given to Phil's highly controversial role in Reconstruction and the Indian Warz.
