PREFACE TO THE FOURTEENTH EDITION
It is our pleasur to present to our dear readers the comprehensively revised and enlarged fourteenth edition of Shri B.N.Tandon's "A Hand Book of Practical Auditing". In this edition, we attempted our best to familiarise the students with the basics of auditing more technically. We added ten new chapters to provide good insights into the basics of the technical expertise of auditing- starting from audit planning to reporting, considering various matters, issues along the lines of which the auditing process is normally woven through. The appreciation of these facets of the auditing process, in our opinion, would prepare the readers to gain the grip of how to learn of a subject like auditing.
We have completely revised the chapters on auditing of insurance companies. The opening of insurance sector to private companies and passing of IRDA Act, 1999, have added new dimensions to the audit of insurance companies. The chapter on it is fully recast in the light of new provisions. The chapters dealing with cost audits, audit of government accounts, management auditing, have been changed. The chapters on audits of limited companies have also been revised. The requirements of reporting under CARO 2003 have been adequately discussed.
For better appreciation of the perspective of auditing issues, we have arranged the chapters in four parts- part I - Basics; Part II - Auditing procedures Part III Audit of entities and special audits and Part IV-Others.
We brought this revision with dedicated efforts, which our mentor and father Sri.A.Srinivasan always wished of us. We place down this completely revised, enlarged edition at his lotus feet for his gracing. The humane radiance he spreads around him fills every iota of every nerve of us. His thoughts had been ever filled with concern for good of others. We cannot repay for his pure love nor do we forget his message of selfless service, simple life and high thinking. We move with his memories in mind and his lofty virtues at our heart.
We repeat what we have said in our Eleventh edition- "We do not claim that we have given the students all that they must learn of auditing, though we certainly attempted on it. We humbly feel that we have shown them how to learn the technical subject of auditing. If this mission is achieved, we feel that we are accomplished". We do hold and carry the same message now too. We are thankful for all the encouragement the readers have shown to us over the decade. We
are thankful to their kind responses and would welcome them as our treasure. . We record our thanks to the Publishers for their encouragement and support. Our thanks are
due to the Managing Director and every staff of the company for their yeomen service in academics. We hope that this book will be well received by all students - collegiate and those pursuing professional courses.
