Product details
These organic alfalfa seeds (also known as lucerne) are specially selected for reliable home sprouting. Mild in flavour and easy to grow, they’re ideal for beginners and regular sprouters alike. Simply soak and rinse to enjoy fresh, crunchy sprouts in around 4–7 days, perfect for salads, sandwiches and wraps.
Organic alfalfa seeds are a cost-effective and versatile choice for growing fresh sprouts at home. Also known as lucerne, these small seeds produce mild, crisp sprouts that add texture and freshness to salads, sandwiches, wraps and grain bowls. Alfalfa seeds have a naturally long shelf life when stored in a cool, dry place in an airtight container away from direct sunlight. Once sprouted, the fresh shoots can be kept refrigerated and are best enjoyed within 2–3 days for optimum freshness. How to sprout alfalfa seeds: 1. Add around one tablespoon of seeds to the bottom of a clean jar. 2. Cover with a few inches of water and soak for 8–12 hours. 3. Drain and rinse thoroughly. 4. Leave the jar at an angle in a dark, well-ventilated space. 5. Rinse and drain every 8–12 hours. 6. After around 4–7 days, when the sprouts are 1–2 inches long, give them a final rinse and allow them brief exposure to indirect light to green. 7. Refrigerate and use as required. One tablespoon of seeds will expand significantly during sprouting, producing a generous handful of fresh shoots. If you’re new to sprouting, a smaller pack is a practical starting point, while larger sizes are ideal for households or commercial kitchens that sprout regularly. If sprouts do not develop well, ensure seeds are rinsed consistently, fully drained after each rinse, and kept at a moderate room temperature
Organic alfalfa seeds are 100% organic and highly nutritious, which makes them perfect for enhancing a healthy diet. Alfalfa seeds, also known as Lucerne are great for sprouting beginners as they are easy to plant and tend to sprout within 7-10 days, at which point they are ready to be washed and used to top healthy meals such as salads.
Organic Alfalfa seeds are inexpensive and have a long shelf life prior to sprouting after which sprouted alfalfa can be refrigerated for 2-3 days. Alfalfa sprouts are packed full of vitamins and minerals, which are vital to your daily diets. They are low in calories and can add the finishing touch to a meal.
If you are wondering how to sprout your own alfalfa seeds, try the following step by step instructions:
Sprinkle alfalfa seeds sparingly at the bottom of a container or mason jar (about a tablespoon of seeds)
Pour 2 inches of water into jar
Cover with a cheesecloth or sprouting lid and leave to soak for 8-12 hours overnight
Drain the water through the cheesecloth and refill with fresh water to rinse again, drain completely
Place jar in a dark, dry location
Be sure to rinse alfalfa seeds/sprouts daily (every 8-12 hours) to rehydrate and continue the sprouting process, this should be repeated every 3-5 days
Once they have fully sprouted (about 1-2 inch long) place in direct sunlight to activate the enzymes that make alfalfa so healthy for our diet
Wash thoroughly before use and top your favourite salad or open sandwich for a nutritious addition to a healthy meal.
