This is an introductory textbook, designed primarily for students of Equity in Nigeria, which states the basic principles of Equity and Trusts illustrated as far as possible by Nigerian cases, both reported and unreported, and which incorporates all the relevant Nigerian statutory materials. The leading applicable English cases and statutes are also explained fully, but emphasis is laid on those topics which have received most attention from the Nigerian courts. Those areas in which there is little or no local case-law are considered in outline only, with reference to other books for the benefit of readers who may wish to probe these topics more deeply. Although this is primarily a book for students, practitioners in Nigeria and other African countries and overseas will find it useful as a work of ready reference and as a guide to the manner in which Equity is being applied in Africa’s largest nation. 
The style throughout this book is simple and straightforward, with the emphasis on clarity of explanation, rather than on ‘scholarly’ discussion. Its principal aim is to explain the main principles of Equity and to show how they have been applied or are likely to be applied in the Nigerian situation.
