It consists of a self-inflating bag, a one-way valve, a mask that forms a seal with the patient's face, and an optional oxygen reservoir for increased oxygen delivery. The name "Ambu" is an acronym for "artificial manual breathing unit," highlighting its function in assisting breathing in emergency situations like cardiac arrest or other respiratory distress.
