This is a genuine OEM high-pressure hydraulic filter element cartridge. It is a highly specialized insert tailored for the secondary auxiliary hydraulic systems on large-frame Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), most notably serving as the brake cooling and fan drive oil filter element on heavy-duty articulated haulers.

On heavy machinery blocks like large articulated haulers, braking systems generate enormous amounts of friction thermal load, requiring continuous wet-disc oil cooling. Concurrently, the engine radiator cooling fan is driven hydraulically rather than via a traditional mechanical belt.

Because the fan drive motor and brake cooling cooling solenoid valves operate under precise pressure tolerances, standard paper filters won't cut it. This element utilizes an inorganic micro-glass media that maintains multi-micron particle capture efficiency under high hydraulic flow velocity.

It filters out fine wear metals and carbon particulates that slough off the wet brake assemblies, preventing these contaminants from entering and scoring the tight clearances of the main hydraulic fan pump or steering valves.

As seen in the design, the pleated media is wrapped in a perforated outer protective shield. This stops the pleats from distorting or collapsing during a high-viscosity cold startup when fluid pressure spikes.
