Sea Buckthorn berry powder, Hippophae rhamnoides, has long been used by Mongols, Tibetans and the Chinese.
The name Hippophae means “Shining Horse” indicating some of its benefits and the fact that it made great food for horses on the Mongolian plains. Sometimes it goes by the shorter name of seaberry.
As a superfood packed with nutrition it has far and wide ranging benefits.
Sea Buckthorn berry powder has been used historically to promote the health of the cardiovascular system, immune system as well as for anti-senility and anti-radiation effects.[1]*
Some research has shown that many of the components inside sea buckthorn berry powder can protect the cells, modulate stress, modulate the immune system, protect the liver, protect from radiation, support tissue regeneration and support joints.[2]*
It even may help in tooth decay through compounds that keep the mouth clean.[3]*
Due to its strong antioxidant capabilities and other effects, some are classifying sea buckthorn as an adaptogen.[4]*
Limited human trials have shown some benefits to cardiovascular system [5,6] as well assisting with blood sugar.[7]*
Also contains a wide range of minerals and trace elements. Sea buckthorn powder is a beneficial source of Potassium, Chromium, Copper, Manganese, Molybdenum, and Iron.[8]
Sea buckthorn is amazing in that is has all different groups of the omega fatty acids; 3, 6, 7 and 9. This is unique in the plant world.
All of the omega fatty acids are found in the fruit, but only trace amounts of these will be found in the powder.
In the future we plan to also have sea buckthorn oil available which can be used in both similar and different ways for more wide reaching effects.

As a berry, there is some sweetness to it but its main taste is sour. This is reflective of its vitamin C content (1.35 mg per 1 gram). Estimates say that berries have ten to fifteen times the content of C as oranges. In a powdered form this is concentrated down even more.
The sour taste also points to the hepatoprotective nature how it supports the liver. Studies have shown an anti-fatty liver and anti-cirrhosis effect.[9]*
It also appears to have an insulin regulating effect too and overall is helpful to digestion.[10]*
The recommended dosage is 1 to 2 tablespoons per day. With a 250 gram bag (over half a pound) this will last approximately 2-4 weeks.
Sea buckthorn should not be stimulating so it can be taken at night. That being said everyone is different so a few people may find it to be stimulating.
This can be taken straight (pucker up!) or mixed easily into water or any other drink or smoothie.
Wildcrafted and certified Organic. In order to turn the juice into powder a small amount (around 8%) of maltodextrin (derived from organic, non-gmo rice) is used.
As a berry, sea buckthorn is relatively safe. Clinical testing has not been done with pregnant or breastfeeding women.
