The author, based on his about twenty eight years experience of teaching physics to the engineering students, first at the Pant College of Technology, for about twelve years and later at the College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, for about sixteen years, thought to write a book on the subject.The book completely covers the physics syllabus of the Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar.Many more chapters have been added so that the book can serve as a text book in all engineering colleges. The book also comprises two excellent courses for B.Sc students, one on Electricity and Magnetism and the other on Modern Physics. At the end of each chapter, there is a problem set. Most of the problems in the set are solved in total the book contains about 425 solved problems) so that a student can have an in depth knowledge of the subject. The style of the book is inspired by the famous Resnick - Holliday and Berkeley Physics courses' books. The author very strongly feels that the reading of the book would make the subject of physics well understood and interesting at the same time.The book comprises of chapters on Waves (Chapter 1-3 and Chapters 11 and 12), Electromagnetism (Chapters 4-10) and Modern Physics (Chapters 13-24). Appendix deals with a chapter on Elements of Crystallography. The author firmly feels that this book written in an exhaustive and explanatory fashion will not require consultation of any other book on the subject. Of course, a thorough knowledge of vectors, integral and differential calculus is assumed.Thanks are due to Prof. Dr. M.S.
