The book "Perspectives on Modern and Traditional Communication" is a book that covers various aspects of Mass Communication, including organizational communication.
It deals extensively with traditional
communication which is indigenous to Africa. It is a welcome development in the wide area of Mass Communication as it explains in simple and lucid language various areas of modern and traditional communication. It goes further to explain parables and proverbs with examples from the Holy Bible and the African traditional setting. As Chinua Achebe said, "Proverbs are the palm oil with which words are eaten". The book will no doubt make an interesting reading material for the inquisitive mind, wanting to know more of the rudiments of traditional communication.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
DR. OGBITEN BRICKINS OGBEMI is currently a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc Hons) in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. He also has a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Benin and a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NL). In addition, he holds a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Public Relations from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also has the Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the National Teachers' Institute, Kaduna, and M.Phil. (Mass Communication), Babcock University. Ogbemi has also been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mass Communication (Public Relations and Advertizing) from Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo in Ogun State, Nigeria. He is the author of Decoder: A Glossary of Mass Communication and Marketing Terms, a co-author of Introduction to Mass Communication: A Modern Approach and a co-author of Scanner: A Compendium of Business Concepts, Community Journalism and Broadcasting: Grass-root approach to information dissemination. Other books that he co-authored include: Politics in Nigeria: Issues and Perspectives, Essentials of Marketing for Public Relations, Advertising: A Guide to Good Studentship and The Nigerian Press: A Historical Perspective and Public Relations: Principles, Practice and Management. He has also attended professional and academic conferences and has a lot of publications in reputable academic journals. He had a wide range of experience in journalism and public relations both in the public and private sectors before joining Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. He is a member of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Association for the Promotion of Nigerian Languages (APNILAC).
