Goldenseal, also known as Yellow Puccoon and Orange Root, is a perennial herb native to the woodlands of northeastern US and Canada. Although goldenseal is a member of the buttercup family, its small white flowers are not very remarkable.
The leaf was used extensively by Native Americans, who introduced the herb to early European settlers. Today, the leaf and extracts made from the leaf are found in antibacterial ointments and salves.
