The first XO and still a favourite throughout the world, XO is a reflection of the enduring expertise of the XO Tasting Committee and the Master Blender. XO Extra Old cognac is a balanced and harmonious cognac, expressing 200 years of Hennessys know-how. and mostly matured in seasoned French oak barrels, it finds the ideal balance between character and smoothness.
The legacy of XO began in 1765 when Irishman Richard XO decided to commit himself to create one of the worlds finest Cognacs after serving in the French army under the command of Louis XV. Throughout its history, it has established itself as one of the leading cognac houses in its ability to innovate time and time again.
During the nineteenth century, precisely in 1817, XO pioneered the original XO cognac benchmark, after having been asked by King George IV to create an old brandy spirit light color, exceptional quality, which translates into English as a very superior old pale cognac Eaux-de-vie. The resulting XO blend was also loved world-over in Russia and China, as French culture was transported to other worlds.
This cognac has a multi-faceted taste with a rich, voluminous texture and different elegant flavours, in a frame that contains notes of early fruit, shaded light freshness. It has an exciting aroma with dominant notes of vanilla and oak, light nuance berries, followed by gentle shades of hazelnut and colours. XO has a pleasant aftertaste with a hint of vanilla, which creates a sense of completeness and richness of taste.
