Riding skills and safety / Pre-ride checks

Riding skills and safety

Cycling posture is determined by the relative positions of the rider and the bicycle's contact points (handles, seat, pedals). However, posture is also closely related to the rider's height and size. Therefore, cycling posture not only determines the efficiency of muscle contraction but also the safety of following the bicycle. Thus, correct cycling posture is the foundation of safety. The following sections describe safe riding techniques.

A. Multi-point adjustment method: This method integrates multiple principles such as bicycle dynamics, exercise physiology, and safe driving.

1. Adjust the seat height: Place your heels on the ground so that your legs can be naturally straight, then fix the swivel seat.

2. Front and back position: Position your feet at a 45-degree angle so that your knees and the center of your foot are on the same straight line.

3. Adjust the handle's position and height. For box-type handles, make them approximately 30-50 mm higher than the seat; for flat handles, make them level with the seat. For lower-type handles, make sure the top is level with the seat. After adjustment, ensure the handles are locked in place.

4. Chain-riding posture: upper body slightly leaning forward, elbows bent, forming an equilateral triangle.

8. Seat Position: When riding a bicycle, your weight should be distributed approximately 50% on the seat, 30% on the handlebars, and 20% on the ground. Do not place your entire weight on the seat.

This can cause poor blood flow, leading to that painful child.

The hooking motion, pulling the pedal up, effectively reduces energy consumption. C. Tips for this route: The ideal position is with the big toe of the foot landing precisely in the center of the foot, with my direction parallel to the bike's center line. Pay special attention to the second half of the foot rotation.

Check before traveling

For the entire vehicle, the following materials can be checked for wear and tear: tire pressure, eccentricity, transmission system wear, seat tube safety wire exposure, and whether the vehicle has reached the indicated damage level during a safety inspection. For vehicles made of composite materials, the wear and tear has exceeded the permitted service life.

For wheelsets made of composite materials, follow the instructions on the rim markings before use. If the wheel experiences three impacts in a short time, there may be invisible marks, posing a safety hazard. The wheelset should be sent to a specialty store for professional inspection and replacement.

Transmission system

Transmission system

The purpose of the gear system is to enable riders to make appropriate choices based on various terrains, wind directions, and physical strength in order to achieve the goal of saving energy and riding quickly.

The drivetrain includes: shift levers, front and rear axles, chainrings, freewheel, chain, and shift cables;

The transmission system is indicated by the number of sprockets on the chainring and the freewheel, with common configurations including 2*8.2, 9.2", 10.3*7.3, 8.3, 9.3, 10.1*1, 11.1*12, etc.

Shifters are usually mounted on the handlebars. The left shifter controls forward and backward movement, and the right shifter controls rearward movement.

Finger levers: The upper lever controls the chain movement from small segments to large segments, and the lower lever controls the chain movement from large segments to small segments (Figure 1);

Grip the throttle and rotate it towards your body. The new chain will travel from the smaller segments to the larger segments. If you rotate it in the opposite direction, the chain will travel from the larger segments to the smaller segments (Figure 2). Precautions for using the gear system: During riding, avoid excessively large or small-to-small gear ratios as shown. Try not to change the gear ratio drastically during riding, as this will affect the lifespan of the gearbox. The gear system requires regular maintenance to ensure smooth operation (West 3)
