Gram flour is made from ground chickpeas (aka, chana dal). It can be used to make flat savoury breads, thicken sauces and to make a batter mix. Is also used in producing snacks such as Bombay Mix. Chick pea flour is sometimes known as Besan Flour or Garbanzo Bean Flour.

Appearance

Chickpea flour is very finely ground into a dense, clingy flour. It is light yellow/off white in colour.

Directions

Chick pea flour, or gram flour, is typically used in India to make flatbreads. Simply mix with water and appropriate seasonings, then roll out into flat chapati-shaped portions. Brush with oil and shallow-fry each chapati in a non-stick pan.

Gram flour holds together well and makes an excellent binder for gluten-free bread, or egg-free savoury pancakes.
