Board and Setup

8×8 grid (64 squares), alternating light and dark squares.

Each player has:

1 King

1 Queen

2 Rooks

2 Knights

2 Bishops

8 Pawns

 Unique Piece Movements

Each type of piece moves differently:

King: One square in any direction

Queen: Any number of squares in any direction

Rook: Vertically or horizontally

Bishop: Diagonally

Knight: L-shaped maneuvers, can jump over pieces

Pawn: Forward only; captures diagonally; special rules apply

 Special Rules

Castling: King and rook move simultaneously for king safety

En passant: Special pawn capture

Pawn promotion: Pawn reaching far rank becomes another piece (usually a queen)

Win Conditions

Checkmate: Opponent’s king cannot escape threat

Resignation: A player voluntarily gives up

Timed victory: Opponent runs out of time (in timed games)

Draws can occur by:

Stalemate

Threefold repetition

Insufficient material

50-move rule

Mutual agreement

Blitz: Fast-paced (3–5 minutes)
