Rewarding your dog will help to associate positive rewards with nail clipping time.Filing your dog's nail is primarily done to remove any sharp tips or fragments left over from clipping your dog's nails.Using your cutter/nail file, grasp your dog's paw gently and spread the toes apart with your dominant hand. Hold the file and gently round off any sharp edges for a smooth finish.Neglecting to cut your dog's nails will begin to affect their balance. Longer nails will force them to start placing weight on the nails instead of their pawpads. This will result in less grip to the ground and cause your dog to fall more frequently which puts them at risk for other injuries.
