The Hi-Link HLK-LD2410C is a high-sensitivity, 24GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) human presence radar sensor module. Unlike standard Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensors that require a person to move to trigger them, the HLK-LD2410C can detect both moving and completely stationary individuals (such as someone sitting still, sleeping, or breathing softly). Gating and Distance Zones

The sensor’s detection range is uniquely divided into 9 range gates spaced exactly 0.75 meters apart. This granular design allows you to:

  • Exclude specific zones to eliminate false positives (e.g., ignoring a rotating ceiling fan or curtains moving near a window in Gate 4).
  • Define different maximum ranges for moving targets versus stationary targets.

Configuration & Integration Tools

You can tune the sensitivity and latency of your sensor using three main methods:

  • HLKRadarTool (Mobile App): Available on Android and iOS. Connects wirelessly via Bluetooth and is the only tool that lets you change the default 256K baud rate to a lower rate (like 115,200) to match slower microcontrollers. [1]
  • Web & PC Utilities: The desktop application (LD2410-Tool) or Web Serial browsers (like Chrome or Edge visiting specialized configurator pages) let you visually map target distances with real-time graphs when using a USB-to-TTL serial adapter. [1, 2]
  • Smart Home Integrations: It is natively supported by ESPHome and Home Assistant. You can wire it directly to an ESP32 microchip to track real-time occupancy coordinates or pair it wirelessly as a Bluetooth tracking entity. Note: The sensor can only handle one Bluetooth connection at a time; disconnect it from Home Assistant if you need to use the mobile app.
