Description
The process of replacing an O2 sensor involves locating the faulty sensor (often identified by an OBD-II scanner code), safely accessing it in the exhaust system, disconnecting its electrical harness, physically removing the old sensor using a specialized oxygen sensor socket, and installing the new one. Due to exposure to extreme heat and harsh conditions, sensors can be difficult to remove, often requiring the use of penetrating oil and the engine to be cool. The new sensor usually comes with anti-seize compound applied to the threads to prevent future seizing; care must be taken not to get this or any contaminants on the sensor tip.
