Foundation Of Accounting (An IFRS Approach)

AbOUT THE Book Nigeria embarked on a phased adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFS) in the preparation of financial statements in the country with effect ACCOUNTINE   from 1 st January 2012. The adoption of IFS with the attendant changes in financial reporting in the country has brought about some challenges. One of which is how to fast track the teaching and learning of IFRS in tertiary institutions. The Nigeria Accounting Standards Board (NASB), the predecessor of Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria had this challenge in mind in 2010, when it called for "a concerted and coordinated effort that will assist in the introduction and sustenance of the teaching and learning of IFRS in Nigerian tertiary institutions". This book, Foundation of Accounting: An IFRS Approach, is a contribution in the direction suggested by NASB. It does so not only by filling in part of the existing gap in the accounting literature that can be used to teach some aspects of IFRS at the foundation level of Financial Accounting but also by giving advice on the direction the teaching of the course should take in an IFRS   era. The second edition has been written not only to update the first edition but also to increase the clarity and understandability of the topics covered earlier. AbOUT THE AUTHOR of Business Administration, University of Lagos (2005 - 2009). He is currently a member of University of Lagos Governing Council as a representative of Unilag Senate. Educated at King's College, Lagos, he studied Accounting at University of Lagos where he was also the Financial Secretary of University of Lagos Students' Union. He attended Columbia Graduate School of Business, New York for his MBA and graduated as a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honours Society for outstanding Business students. He is also an alumnus of Manchester Business School, University of Manchester where he obtained his PhD in Budgeting. He was a Fulbright Scholar- in-Residence at Texas Southern University, Houston during 2006/2007 academic session on Exchange Programme sponsored by American government. He also served a as a part-time Commissioner at the Tax Appeal Tribunal, South Eastern Zone, Enugu between 2010 and 2016. Among his books are Government Budgeting in Nigeria (2001), Government Accounting in Nigeria: An During his many years   of service at University of Lagos, he contributed to the education of thousands of Nigerians who are leaders in their fields including three of the current State Governors, the first female Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service, current Head of Service of the Federation and the Senior Partner of one of the top four accounting firms in the world. Country for his contribution to accounting education in Nigeria.
