When you choose lenses with anti-blue ray properties, the protection is built in one of two main ways. Just because a lens doesn't have a special surface reflection, it doesn't mean it isn't protecting you!
1. The "Reflective Shield" (A Surface Coating)
Think of it like a mirror for blue light. This is a special coating applied to the front and back of a clear lens.
How to spot it: When you look at the lens, you will often see a distinct blue or purple reflection or glare. This is the coating actively bouncing the blue light away from your eyes.
2. The "Absorbing Material" (Built-in Protection)
Think of it like a sponge in the lens. The anti-blue light substance is mixed right into the lens material itself.
How to spot it: The lens will usually have a very slight, uniform yellow or amber tint. It is protecting your eyes without relying on the surface coating to do all the work.
Key takeaway: Both types work! A lens can look perfectly clear (except for the blue reflection) or it can have a subtle yellow tint. If you don't see the blue reflection, it usually means the protection is inside the lens material.
