The leaves of the African birch (Anogeissus leiocarpa) are used in traditional medicine in Nigeria to treat a variety of conditions. The leaves are also rich in tannins, which are useful for dyeing.

The Yoruba name for the African birch tree is Ayin. The African birch tree is an evergreen tree that is common in Africa. 

Other names for the African birch tree: Marke (Hausa), Kojoli (Fulani), and Atara (Igbo). 

Decoctions of the leaves, bark, and roots are used to treat yellow fever, jaundice, hepatitis, colds, and headache. 

The leaves or leafy twigs decoction is also applied externally against hemorrhoids and skin diseases. 

The leaves are rich in tannin, which are useful for dyeing.
