It plays MP3, m4a, WAV, etc. audio files very well and works with up to 128GB memory card; it does not work without a memory card as the internal memory is negligible. The major drawback of the device, and the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars, is that the navigation buttons lack backlight. This makes navigation on the device difficult at night without some form of illumination by flashlight or torchlight. It is a good device at the price.
