Beck Beer 1 Carton

Although Beck’s Beer originated in Bremen, Germany, it is now brewed in St. Louis, MO for the American market and is owned by AB InBev. According to the label and AB InBev’s website, Beck’s Beer is, however, brewed according to the German Purity Law of 1516.

Beck’s Beer is a crystal-clear, slightly-effervescent, golden-straw colored pilsner with a thin white head that quickly dissipates and is not maintained by the weak effervescence. It has a light, grainy aroma with hints of delicate spice thanks to the inclusion of Hallertau hops – genuine Hallertau hops from the Hallertau region of Germany.

The mouthfeel is light and I can only describe the flavor as what I imagine water that has had white bread and malt grain soaking in it tastes like. There’s also a lingering salty, bitterness to the beer on the swallow.

Compared with many other genuine German Pilsners still brewed in Germany, historic Beck’s must be ashamed of what it has become: thin, fairly flavorless and with very little attention paid to the malt flavor. I can’t imagine this is the exact same pilsner that originated in Bremen, Germany in 1874
