This universal solubility results in ALA being commonly referred to as the Universal Antioxidant and allows it to be particularly effective in providing its antioxidant benefits to the cells of our nervous system and brain where its molecular structure permits it to cross the blood-brain barrier. It also protects the vital tissues and structures of the cardiovascular and immune systems, the liver, kidneys and lungs.
