Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is a perennial herb belonging to the family Malvaceae. It is distributed in Europe, Asia, and North Africa. In nature, this plant reaches a height of up to one meter, and under favorable soil and weather conditions - up to 1.5 meters. It has rounded stems with elliptical or heart-shaped leaves. In the axils of the leaves, located in the middle and upper part of the stem. Marshmallow has pale pink flowers with five petals. The diameter of the flowers is up to two or more centimeters. Marshmallow blooms in the second year of life, from June to September, the seeds ripen in September - October.
