A pipe wrench is a heavy-duty adjustable wrench designed specifically for gripping and turning pipes, pipe fittings, and other rounded objects.
It's different from a normal wrench - instead of smooth flat jaws, it has sharp, toothed jaws that bite into the pipe to give you grip.
Construction - Main Parts
1. Hook Jaw: The movable upper jaw with teeth. It moves up and down to adjust size.
2. Heel Jaw: The fixed lower jaw with teeth, attached to the handle. The two jaws create the gripping action.
3. Adjustment Nut: The large knurled ring you turn to slide the hook jaw open or closed to fit different pipe diameters.
4. Handle / Shank: Long cast iron or aluminum handle that gives you leverage. The longer the handle, the more torque.
5. Spring and Frame: Inside the head, allows the hook jaw to have a little spring movement which helps the teeth grip tighter when pressure is applied.
