What Is a Core Pulling Nail Gun?

A core pulling nail gun (also called a pull-core rivet gun or core extraction nailer) is a specialized fastening tool used to install core-pulling nails or rivets — fasteners that grip two materials together by pulling a central “core” or “mandrel” through the nail body to expand and lock it in place.

This type of tool is common in:

⚙️ How It Works

1. The nail or rivet (with a central pull core) is placed into the gun’s nozzle.

2. When the trigger is pulled, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric force grips the core and pulls it backward.

3. As the core is pulled, the nail’s body expands or deforms to clamp the materials tightly together.

4. The remaining core snaps off automatically, leaving a secure joint.
