Saw Palmetto Fruit Extract

The berries of saw palmetto, a palm-like plant, are known to have been used as a food and medicine by the Native Americans of the southeastern region on the United States. Saw palmetto has a history of being used to promote urinary tract health and to maintain libido. This whole-food extract contributes to balanced testosterone levels and regulates healthy inflammation of the prostate. It is theorized to reduce concentrations of an enzyme involved in prostate cell growth. As itself a potent source of beta-sitosterol, saw palmetto serves as a powerful addition to Dr. Colbert's prostate formula. 

Beta-sitosterol

Beta-sitosterol is a plant sourced fat, or phytosterol, that is known to encourage healthy prostate aging. The potent prostate protective properties of beta-sitosterol are thought to come from inhibition of an enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT stimulates the division of prostate cells increasing their number and leading to an enlarged prostate.

Found notably in foods such such as saw palmetto berries, pumpkin seeds, nuts, avocados, and chocolate, beta-sitosterol is abundant in the plant kingdom. Unfortunately, it is difficult to achieve therapeutic dosages through diet alone. Pumpkin Seed Extract

Pumpkins are native to North America and were a staple crop for the indigenous people. Pumpkin seeds are loaded with fat-soluble vitamins and trace minerals that are important for prostate health. Graminex is a non-solvent flower pollen extract consisting primarily of rye grass pollen. Boswellia Extract

Boswellia serrata, also known as indian frankincense, has been used by herbalists for thousands of years. Extracted from the gum resin of the boswellia tree, this ancient herb acts to block a damaging proinflammatory enzyme called 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) that could contribute to inflammatory conditions in the prostate. 

Lycopene

Lycopene is a plant compound that is notably responsible for for the bright red color of tomatoes. Found in many plants, lycopene is in a class of phytochemicals called carotenoids. Carotenoids are yellow, orange, or red fat-soluble pigments that often have antioxidant effects. Antioxidants work by neutralizing free-radicals and preventing cellular degeneration. Research suggests that lycopene may be the most potent antioxidant of all the carotenoids. Thus, lycopene helps modulate oxidative damage in prostate cells.
