Found a way to take the mic off the cold shoe mount (try not to break it) and discovered the mic has another 3.5mm end that is attached to it directly that can fit in your phone. It works with my phone that way. So, no need for the 3.5mm - 3.5mm cord and the cold shoe mount, in my case cos that didn't work with my phone. Pretty complicated piece but recommended (except the LED lights).
