Our Raw Black Maca Extract 10:1 ratio is made from 100% black colored Maca roots. These roots are the rarest of all Maca colors, making up around 15% of the annual harvest. Studies have shown Black Maca to be the most effective Maca color for muscle building, endurance, mental focus and male libido and fertility.
Maca is a plant which grows naturally at high-altitude, in the Peruvian Andes. For many centuries it has been a central part of local diets in Peru and Bolivia, where almost every part of the plant is used. Also known as 'Peruvian Ginseng', maca is a nutrition-packed root vegetable, flourishing in environments often 4000m above sea level. Plants at this harsh altitude have to take in as many nutrients from the ground as possible to survive, Maca has a high starch content which can be regarded as an inhibitor to digestion of the product. 
Our best quality maca roots are hand selected, cleaned in water, and then dried. The further processing steps involve temperature application which breaks the starch molecules promoting its easier digestion and bio-availability of other nutrients in Maca. The Maca root is then ground into a fine powder and packaged. It's important to note that the color of the roots are primarily found in the skin, and the colors of the actual powder is medium to dark beige, which matches the colour of the flesh of all types of Maca.
