The year is coming to a close and Christmas festivities have began, I hope we all achieved the goals we set at the beginning of the year. Today we will be talking about lemons and its usage in beautifying the skin, hair, nails and others. If you don’t know about the usage of lemons or simply want to re-enlighten yourself then read below for some of their uses so you can stock up on them in this festive period and incorporate them into your beauty routine.
1 To even out the skin tone.
Lemons are great for lightening darker areas of the skin like the underarms, elbows and knees. Half a lemon should be rubbed on the affected area preferably in the night. This is to prevent the sun from touching that area as it becomes very sensitive after the application of lemon. Also after usage of the lemon, always apply a moisturizer which has a high SPF(sun protective factor).
2 For acne.
Lemons can also be used to treat acne, break-outs or pimples as they are often called. Pimples are basically caused by the presence of excess oil on the skin and due to the drying properties of lemon, it helps to dry the pimple and clear the spots. After usage, a moisturizer should be applied or it could be used with honey to prevent dryness of the affected areas. You can create your own clarifying toner by mixing lemon with coconut water, to be used as an astringent.
3 As a lip moisturizer.
Lemons could be used to increase the moisture in the lips and in this harmattan period this tip is particularly very helpful. During harmattan, the weather is dry and dusty which leave our lips chaffed and could lead to injuries. To prevent this, half a lemon should be rubbed on the lips and followed by a lip balm/ moisturizer.
4 For clean and healthy nails.
Just doing chores around the house could lead to dirtying and weakening f nails. Lemon is a great ally in fighting this as it promotes the elimination of marks on nails, strengthening the nails at the same time. All you need to do is combine a bit of lemon juice with two tablespoons of olive oil in a bowl then soak your nails in it for about 5 to 10 minutes.
5 Treat dandruff.
Lemon juice is very effective in the treatment of dandruff on all types of hair. Just massage two tablespoons lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water. Then stir one teaspoon lemon juice into one cup water and rinse your hair with I then you have to keep repeating this process daily until the dandruff is gone. It can also help to treat itchy scalp, split ends and lengthen hair.
6 To whiten your teeth.
Lemons can be used to whiten teeth when mixed with sodium bicarbonate(baking soda/powder). This mixture is supposed to foam then using a Q-tip apply to teeth and then brush normally.
Then a quick tip, limes can also be used interchangeably as lemons because their nutritional benefits are somewhat the same. So I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post and also learned some new things. You can visit my personal blog myfashionmusings.com.
